The Iowa Department of Transportation adopted the Zero Fatalities® campaign to address high-priority issues facing drivers today. Following in the footsteps of that messaging, the City of Waterloo consulted Hellman for ways to join statewide efforts to reduce the number of driver fatalities. For the widest reach and greatest emotional impact, a 30-second TV spot was chosen to deliver our updated tagline, “It’s over before it begins.”
Hellman pursued a high-impact and emotional approach to shock the viewer with the dangers of texting and driving. The birth of a child is a life-changing event, filled with joy, anticipation, and excitement. In our spot, this moment is fractured, destroyed in an instant by a single text message. The spot leaves the viewer with a sense of overwhelming loss, as the couple’s elation is shattered in an instant because of a single poor decision.
