HELLMAN CREATIVE CAMPAIGN EARNS INTERNATIONAL AWARD Film Noir Campaign Wins 2009 Gold Davey Award
Hellman, a full-service marketing, advertising and public relations firm in Waterloo, Iowa, has earned a prestigious International Davey Award for an integrated film noir-style campaign developed for 3M ESPE, a division of long-time client, 3M Corporation. The award honors outstanding creative work from the best small agencies around the globe. “All of the Details. None of the Drama.” is one of only ten campaigns worldwide to receive the 2009 Gold Davey Award in the integrated category.
More than 4,000 entries were submitted for the 2009 Davey Awards from small agencies specializing in interactive, graphic design, public relations and more. Awards include Best in Show, the Gold Davey, and the Silver Davey. To earn a Gold Davey, the Hellman campaign needed to score a 9.0 or higher on a 10-point scale.
“Being located in a mid-sized city in Iowa, it’s rewarding to see Hellman listed with agencies from Chicago, West Hollywood, Seattle and Minneapolis, among others,” said Ila Scott-Ford, Chief Marketing Officer at Hellman. “Our small agency enjoys working with an impressive list of clients because we provide creative that gets noticed and produces results. For this campaign we took a film noir, serial approach. Our campaign’s main character – the ‘Sam Spade of Dentistry’ – made product benefits instantly relevant for the target audience, in an entertaining way.The campaign – as with all of the Davey Award entries – was judged on its merits based on a standard of excellence as determined by the International Academy of the Visual Arts (IAVA), whose members include acclaimed media, advertising and marketing firms.
“This organization is comprised of the ‘who’s who’ of our industry,” said David McNurlen, Chief Creative Officer at Hellman. “To be recognized for our work by such renowned professionals is an incredible honor, and is a testament to the creative capabilities of our firm. Creating the film noir characters, environments and dialogue showcased the wide variety of talents we have in house.”
“We also give credit to our clients, Karen Sullivan and Sean Regan at 3M ESPE, for taking a risk and letting us run with a concept that was way outside the box. It certainly caught the attention of the dental industry,” said Kathryn Forslund, Hellman EVP/Sr. Account Executive in the Minneapolis office.
About the International Davey Awards
The Davey Awards are international creative awards focused exclusively on honoring outstanding creative work from the best small firms worldwide. In the parable of David vs. Goliath, David defeated the giant Goliath with a big idea and a little rock. The annual Davey Awards honor the achievement of the “Creative Davids,” where strength comes from ideas, intelligence and out-of-the-box thinking, not a “giant’s” bankroll. The Davey Awards are judged and overseen by the International Academy of Visual Arts (IAVA), an invitation-only, member-based organization of leading professionals from various disciplines of the visual arts, which is dedicated to embracing progress and the evolving nature of traditional and interactive media.
